Come onnnn. We’ve all heard them, laughed at them, and we’ve all slapped someone for mentioning a few.

These are the Poly stereotypes floating around my small, ignorant [but beautiful] town:

1. “Don’t, like all Polynesians like SPAM? or like, Spam and reese’s together?”

this one probably makes me laugh more than it makes me angry:

2. “Oh You’re from Hawaii?! Don’t you guys like live in huts, hang out on the beach all day, and hula?!”

3. “Oh my gosh, Tongan people eat HORSES!!! Call Animal control!” <—-ignorance.

4. “Oh my GOSH!!! ALL Samoans are like HUGE! Like really, really, really, HUGE!!”

5. “You guys put coconut milk in your hair,huh? Or like some magic oil?”

6. “Don’t all Polynesians like, play the ukulele. [pronounciation: you-kah-lay-lee]

7. “Don’t you Polynesians come from like massively huge families? like, don’t you have 15 brothers and sister or something?”

8. “So, like is it true that Samoan people eat people when they’re angry??”

9. “Hawaiian people are like…extinct..?” …Okay, I honestly slapped this white girl for saying this back in high school…[this is before I found Jesus, haha]

10. “Like…didn’t all Polynesians vote for like, Obama because he’s like, from Hawaii?”

…ignorance is so sad…
